Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on the bread dough package.
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, sauerkraut, chopped onion, minced garlic, caraway seeds (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix properly so all the ingredients meld together well.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed bread dough into a rectangle or circle, about 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) thick.
Cut the rolled-out dough into smaller squares or circles, depending on your preferred size for the Krautburgers.
Spoon a generous amount of the meat and sauerkraut filling onto one-half of each dough square or circle, leaving a small border around the edges.
Fold the other half of the dough over the filling, creating a pocket. Press the edges firmly together to seal the Krautburger.
Place the assembled Krautburgers on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
If desired, lightly brush the tops of the Krautburgers with beaten egg or melted butter to enhance the browning and flavor.
Bake in the preheated oven for the time indicated on the bread dough package or until the Krautburgers are golden brown and cooked through.
Once baked, remove the Krautburgers from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
