Ingredients

  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Set oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the self-rising flour and sugar.
  • Cut in Butter: Using a pastry cutter or fork, cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Add Buttermilk: Gradually add the buttermilk, stirring just until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Roll Out Dough: Transfer the dough to a surface lightly dusted with flour. Knead gently a few times, then roll out to about 1/2 inch thickness.
  • Cut Biscuits: To cut out the biscuit use cutter or a round glass. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake: Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown.
  • Brush with Butter: Immediately brush the tops with melted butter.
  • Serve: Serve warm.
