Ingredients
2 cups elbow macaroni
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground mustard
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
2 cups whole milk
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
Boil the Macaroni
Follow the package guidelines to cook the elbow macaroni.
Drain and set aside.
Prepare the Cheese Sauce
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
Stir in flour, salt, pepper, ground mustard, and garlic powder until well combined.
Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring a smooth consistency.
Continue to whisk until the mixture thickens.
Add Cheese
Reduce heat to low and add shredded cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese.
Stir until the cheeses are fully melted and the sauce is velvety.
Combine Macaroni and Cheese Sauce
Mix the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce, making sure to stir until the macaroni is thoroughly coated with the cheesy goodness.
Bake
Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
Serve
Just before serving allow it to cool for a few minutes.
Garnish with additional Parmesan if desired.
