Equipment

  • Large pot for boiling pasta
  • Medium-sized saucepan for the marinara sauce
  • Wooden spoon for stirring
  • Knife and cutting board for chopping vegetables
  • Colander for draining the pasta

Ingredients

  • 1 pound (450g) penne pasta (or any pasta of your choice)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Red pepper flakes 1/2 teaspoon (optional for added spice)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Heat a large pot of salted water until it boils, then cook the pasta following the package instructions until al dente. Drain the pasta using a colander and set it aside.
  • In a saucepan of medium size, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onions and cook them until they turn translucent through sautéing.
  • Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.
  • Stir in the ground beef and cook until it's browned and cooked through. Break up the meat with a wooden spoon as it cooks.
  • Add the dried oregano, dried basil, crushed tomatoes, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and black pepper into the mixture. Stir everything together, bring it to a simmer, and let it cook for 15-20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  • Add the cooked pasta to the sauce, tossing it gently until all the pasta is coated with the meaty marinara sauce.
  • Serve the Tuscani Meaty Marinara Pasta hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
